The Clark's Nutcracker (Nucifraga columbiana ) belongs to the family Corvidae which includes Crows, Jays, and Magpies.
Length. 12-14 inches
Habitat. Barren rocky areas in high mountains; sometimes visits lowlands in winter.
Nesting. Bulky nest on branch of pine or juniper is built of twigs and bark and lined with grasses. Eggs 2-6, pale green dotted with brown. Incubation about 18 days, by both sexes. Young leave nest in about 4 weeks.
Food. Mostly pine seeds and juniper berries; also insects in summer. May steal eggs and nestlings of other birds.
