The Black Oystercatcher (Haematopus bachmani) belongs to the family Charadriidae which includes Avocets, Oystercatchers, Plovers, and Stilts.
Length. 16.5-18.5 inches
Habitat. rocky coasts and islands.
Nesting. Nest is a hollow in gravel. Eggs 1-4, buff, spotted with dark brown. Incubation about 24-29 days, by both sexes. Young downy; leav nest soon after hatching; become independent at about 5 weeks.
Food. Mussels, starfish, marine worms crustaceans and other marine animals.
