Chipping Sparrow

The Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina) belongs to the family Emberizidae which includes American Sparrows, Buntings, Emberizid Finches, New World Sparrows, and Towhees.

Length. 4.5-5.5 inches

Habitat. Farms, yards, and pine woods.

Nesting. Nest is a cup of grass, stems, and rootlets, usually lined with hair, 1-40 ft. above ground in bush or dense tree. Eggs 3-5, pale blue-green, marked with brown, lilac and black. Incubation about 11-14 days, by female. Young leave nest 8-12 days after hatching. Usually 2 broods a year

Food. Seeds and insects .
