The American Wigeon (Anas americana) belongs to the family Anatidae which includes Ducks, Geese and Swans.
Length. 18-23 inches
Habitat. Lakes, ponds, and marshes.
Nesting. Nest is a hollow lined with grass and much down, in tall weeds, often some distance from water. Eggs 6-12, cream-colored. Incubation about 25 days, by female only. Young downy, leave nest soon after hatching; begin to fly at 7-8 weeks.
Food. Seeds and foliage of aquatic plants; some insects and mollusks.
